Joke of the Month

The Interview

A business man was interviewing applicants for the position of divisional manager. he devised a simple test to select the most suitable person for the job. He asked each applicant the question,

"What is two and two?"

The first interviewee was a journalist. His answer was "Twenty-two."

The second was a social worker. She said, "I don't know the answer but I am glad we had time to discuss this important question."

The third applicant was an engineer. He pulled out a slide rule and showed the answer to be between 3.999 and 4.001.

The next person was a lawyer. He stated that in the case of Jenkins vs Commr of Stamp Duties (Qld), two and two was proven to be four.

The last applicant was an accountant. The business man asked him, "How much is two and two?"

The accountant got up from his chair, went over to the door and closed it then came back and sat down. He leaned across the desk and said in a low voice, "How much do you want it to be?"

The Final Platform from Pre-hire to Retire

Step 3. Background Checks & Skills Assessments

As we continue our journey in the Pre-hire to retire step by step review, the next stop is, "The investigation of background checking and skills assessments."

In our last issue, we discussed how important it is to control the cost of providing qualified employees.

We reviewed the tools necessary to allow the HR professional to fill that urgent need from the ever increasing applicant pool.

Now that we have found the standout applicant; the applicant that meets and or exceeds the requirements of the desired position, lets be sure!

Background screening has become a number one priority. It is very important to know as much as possible about the people you hire. EVERY employee has the potential to damage your company's reputation, gouge your company's margins and even expose your company to liabilities. By taking this simple step before you hire, you can avoid costly, far reaching problems down the road.

Far beyond your standard "due diligence" considerations, background checks are one of the most effective applicant screening tools readily available.

At HRTS, we can provide recommendation for background screening services. Our applicant tracking solutions can be customized to include the background check in the workflow. By automating the process, and allowing technology to be your guide, you can protect your company and yourself.

We continue to evaluate integrated systems and applications to keep our partners on the leading edge of technology that improves efficiencies, saves time, and saves money, for the most important priority - you our valued partners!

From The Desk Of...

Dave Campbell, Sales Manager writes:

Have you ever wondered what your employees are thinking?

Would it be helpful if you could ask pre-qualifying questions during the application process?
The use of a survey tool can provide this type of valuable information. There are many different offerings online, easy to use, some more sophisticated that others. Now let's take this one step even further integrated with your HR/ Payroll solution.

Integrated, customizable survey tools are revolutionizing the efficiency of the HR professional. Survey responses can place information at the fingertips of HR. Targeted information in areas pertaining to recruitment, employee satisfaction and performance reviews.

Recruitment
Post a job opening for banquet server, 150 responses, 15 reply with proper key words, etc. but only 5 can lift
(50 lbs) and work Saturday nights.
With a survey tool this information is obtainable, prior to the first interview.

Employee Satisfaction
Arrange a company awards program... Help! Where do employees like to eat? Where do employees buy their coffee? With an integrated survey tool, when an employee goes to the ESS web site to see their recent pay check stub, the front page invites the employee to complete a simple survey on favorite restaurants and favorite coffee. Employee responses are arranged in bar graph style that provides the targeted information you are seeking.

Performance Reviews
Conduct 360 degree reviews and send out responses to all participants for feedback.
Customize by position, by department, by location, etc. Collecting responses is easy and can be made accessible for select viewers to see.

With your professional creativeness, there are many more uses of an integrated survey tool. Let technology help improve employee communication, employee morale, decisions making efficiencies and collection of information.
